Lives of families with autism

The aim of this bachelor's thesis was to find out how a diagnosis of a child with ASD influenced the life of the family. The analysis of the information obtained from the interviews provided a lot of knowledge. At the same time, answers to individual research questions were found, the research questions were focused on the normal day of a family with a child with ASD, changes between partners after obtaining the diagnosis and the extent to which the diagnosis affected the overall life of the family. The research was carried out using a qualitative research strategy, and using the technique of a semi-structured interview with parents of children with autism spectrum disorder. For this type of research, questions were prepared in advance and adjusted during the interview. The research survey was conducted with twelve informants-parents of children with autism spectrum disorder. Thanks to open coding, ten basic categories have been found. It was clear from the interviews that every child with ASD, even while having the same diagnosis, differs from the others in their manifestations. The statements of the mothers intersected mainly in the area of the stereotypical life of the children, but at the same time they agreed on having relieved emotions after the diagnosis. The parents suddenly felt more confident and stopped doubting their alleged failure in parenting. The informants cited wider family relationships and the time-consuming care as major problems. After finding out the diagnosis, certain changes have taken place in the relations between the partners. Although the diagnosis was the cause of the breakdown of the partnership in some families, in others it led to the strengthening and deepening of cooperation between the partners. The elaboration of this topic not only helped me to broaden my view in the field of autism spectrum disorders, but even enriched me with new friendly relationships with families. The research included in the bachelor's thesis can help spread information about autism spectrum disorders and at the same time show parents that they are not alone with this diagnosis.
The Picture Exchange Communication System and his application of child with autism spectrum disorder

The bachelor thesis with title "The Picture Exchange Communication System and his application of child with autism spectrum disorder", deals with problems in communication of the children with autism spectrum disorders. One of the goals of the thesis is to submit a comprehensive overview of the essential knowledge of autism, history of autism, typical triad of symptoms (characteristic features of children with autism), etiology, and dividing autism by the adaptability. Another goal is to introduce the reader with a detailed feature and the use of the Picture exchange communication system, since this system is an efficient method of alternative communication, which makes the world more understandable, and not only for children with autism spectrum disorders. The goal of the practical part of the bachelor thesis is to answer hypotheses, which is achieved through case study. It deals with life story and applications of communication therapy of autistic boy in real life. Part of this work is also supplemented by a public opinion survey, which analyse positions of other parents to the Picture exchange communication system.
Motor imitation as a precondition for self-care skills for children with autism spectrum disorders

The thesis deals with Autistic Spectrum Disorders in terms of their ethology and diagnostic criteria. The theoretical part further describes development of terminology of these disorders and historical concept of care of individuals with Autism. Included are also categories of disabilities and their symptoms. Another chapter discusses the specifics of self-help skills of children with Autism and characterizes motor development of preschool children with an emphasis on motor imitation, as one of the sub-kinetic abilities. The aim of the research work is to analyse the degree of influence of motor imitation on the development of self-help skills of children with Autism. It focuses on evaluation of the developmental level of the respondent's self-help skills and its development influenced by intensive imitation training. Determination of the actual developmental level allows easier orientation within self-help skills that can be practiced with the child. Their list is located in the attachments. Further research clarifies what techniques were the most successful during motor imitation training. Problematic behavior of pupils with autism and moderate mental retardation

This diploma thesis focuses on the topic of problematic behaviour of pupils with autism and medium mental retardation in an educational process. The main aim of this work is to learn about and describe teaching staff's experience with the occurrence and ways of handling problematic behaviour of these pupils. The theoretical part describes the basic terms related to autism, mental retardation and it also outlines a historical context of autism, etilogy, its classification and characteristic symptoms. The thesis also focuses on the diagnostic process in the psychological and pedagogical diagnostics, an overview of basic obligatory diagnostic tools is provided. It deals with the legislative framework of the education of pupils with autism and medium mental retardation, it describes the most common educational methods and therapeutic approaches in special schools. Next chapter defines the term problematic behaviour, outlines the diagnostic evaluations and some specific approaches to correcting such behaviour. Jitka Vodáková, CSc. ABSTRACT The goal of this theisis is to test efficiency of special craft program based on natural materials which was developer for pupils with autism. Theoretical part is focused on characteristics of pupils from special basic school. It describes thein diagnoses - mental handicap, multihandicap and especialy autism. Next part oves overview of natural materials, thein varieties and manufacturing. It also describes how crafts are involved in General education program and School education program.This part of thesis pay attention to safety precautions during craft works. Practical part pay is focused on casuistry of four pupils with autism. The main method was direkt observation during their work with natural materials. This observational work took six months. Results of Cheb tests have verified the Access of the special sraft program. Benefits of crafts work program are highlighted in casuistries of autistic pupils.
